Garmin is apparently proud of using the "High-sensitivity integrated GPS receiver by SiRF" in the new Nuvi GPS gear and they put a SiRF logo and link in their Nuvi webpage that looks like a "Intel Inside" sign:

Here are some test data and comments made by the early users of Nuvi that has SiRFstarIII inside:

I haven't had a chance to road test my new Nuvi; however, I will comment on the tremendous indoor sensitivity of the SirfStarIII chip. Simply incredible! The following is a screenshot from the satellite page while I was in my first floor bathroom, with no windows, and with the door closed:

The next screenshot is in my basement. I do have one window in my basement that faces west; however, I was located at the other end of the basement and my staircase is blocking the view of the window. Amazing the SS3 chip still has a lock on 8 birds!

I'm getting ready to do a roadtest this evening. I'll also post some pics of some road tests this weekend. Stay tuned!

Thanks for sharing, yes a SiRFIII based GPS will hold a fix in extreme conditions, there is a price in terms of accuracy of course and no GPS can acquire a fix from scratch if the signal levels are too low (<28dB) - more details here gpspassion.com
