You want to go back in later? You've found the recipe.

A number of things could happen if the US pulled out quickly and left a vulnerable Iraqi gov't behind.

Probably the best outcome would be a Iraqi Islamic theocracy like Iran's. They'd hate hate us (like Chinu) but they probably otherwise would leave us alone. Something like normal diplomatic and trade relations might even be possible.

The 2nd worst would be the country would be torn apart and partitioned by its neighbors. Turkey might get part; that shouldn't be a problem (except maybe for the Turks). Iran would get a nice chunk. That could spell trouble. Part of Iraq might actually maintain independence, although with difficulty.

The worst (and possibly likeliest) is civil war followed by establishment of a dedicated terrorist state that would stike the US or Britain again. Then we'd have to go to war. For real; none of this measured stuff like we have now. Ready to give your kids up to that?

Be careful what you wish for; you might get it.
