Did Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, who never served, actually call Jack Murtha, former Marine Drill Sergeant, decorated Vietnam vet (two Purple Hearts & Bronze Star) and one of the most respected members of Congress with respect to national defense issues, a COWARD?
If thats true, wow! First the Bush/Rove/Cheney/Hastert chickenhawks minions go after McCain, then Cleland, then Kerry... now Murtha. Are there any heros left?
Somehow I have the suspecion we are seeing the implosion of the Republican party here. Unlike John Kerry, who was a bit of an elitist, Jack Murtha would fit right in the shotgun seat of any redneck pickup truck. Will the Swiftboat Vets attack Murtha? At some point even the most ardent Bush supporters have to be wondering not if, but when, these despicable attacks will backfire with a long-lasting consequences. |
