How about "stupid"?

The best excuse that can be offered is that a lot of other people, including people in other countries, believed the same things that Bush did. That's not to say that these "other people" thought that invading Iraq was a good idea.

The expense of the war (and not just the monetary expense) seems likely to be very damaging to the United States in many ways. The dollar balances that have been created to fund it are claims against goods and services, and to create such claims is to raise demand and to devalue the claim tickets.

The best course for the United States, economically, is to create real wealth here at home, and the best way to do that is to create our own sources of energy. And I don't mean hydrogen, which seems to me the science fiction solution. I mean lots of very cheap electric power from lots of nuclear power plants.
