You need to read up on the "Reconstruction". The north did nothing for the blacks OR the whites. Hell, when I was a young man you could STILL see the damage Sherman did when he marched to Atlanta. It took the south at least a 100 years to recover. Had Lincoln lived it would have been different, but upon his assassination the North took it out on all the South. I would say around 1965 the South began to rise again, now, it is probably outprospering the North, certainly is steadily gaining more political power. jdn
