This Johnson fellow may be a hero but he lied like the smearvets did, blaming the peace-making heros who fought to end the Vietnam war for the military failure. That is an outrageous lie.

In fact, we had lost that war by 1968 and had no way of winning despite 550,000 troops in-country and lots more from other countries, plus dropping more bombs on that poor little country than in the entire WWII. We also dropped napalm, Agent Orange and White Phoz. We devastated huge parts of the country side. We burned down hundreds of villages. And we still couldn't even come close to winning.

Why not? Because the war was based on a lie and the logic of it was extremely flawed. We weren't fighting communists, we had put ourselves in the midst of a civil war where local people were willing to give their lives to kill us. We were in fact killing many of the very people we claimed to be fighting for. Similar to Iraq.

Iraq is also unwinnable, as Murtha says. And staying there just makes matters worse.
