CHICAGO (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores (NYSE:WMT - News) on Saturday maintained its November sales forecast and said demand for groceries outstripped general merchandise sales.

On a recorded message detailing sales through Friday, the world's biggest retailer said it still expects 3 percent to 5 percent growth at its U.S. stores open at least a year -- a key retail measure known as same-store sales.

Wal-Mart is the biggest grocer. Why is 4% growth in sales considered good when inflation in groceries and other staples is much higher than 4%?
