Bush has done worse than any other president I can remember. I spend half my time in Europe over the past few years and the standing of Americans has never been lower there in my lifetime.

Also, evil intentions generally result from stringent moral convictions. The narrowness of these convictions encourages the conduct of immoral deeds in order to bring back order and virtue. Hitler and the Nazis were prime examples and their slogans were extremely moralistic and very much appealed to religious conservatives in Germany. To my dismay we are observing quite a few parallels at this time in other cultures.

With regard to the war, there is no question in my mind that entering into a unilateral conflict is evil by most moral codes. It is not an issue if friends of GWB consider him a good or bad person as I believe that history has judged him already.

The problem is that we have an electorate that is unwilling to confront the issue and therefore in the eyes of the rest of the world, the U.S. has completely lost its moral authority. This is a huge change and makes it much more difficult and most likely impossible for the U.S. to retain its hegemony. As we see with Iraq and Afghanistan, to retain control with force is quite expensive, to do it with friendship and incentives was very cheap.
