The vote was so lopsided because it was a Republican stunt that the Democrats weren't going to dignify with an honest vote. If you are negotiating with someone about an issue and they make an offer that you clearly know is a sarcastic, insulting taunt, are you going to fight it out over that proposal or find a way to let everyone know that it is childish and meaningless? Like dismiss it with contempt yourself? Certain groups may think there is really not much support for a timely withdrawal, but they are in for a shock as the polls go against them in the runup to the 2006 midterms, I would guess. The issue is to important to consign to political theater and cheap tricks. We shall see.
