Both sides of the argument are not defining their terms, either "as soon as possible" or "as long as it takes".

What is it about "as soon as possible" that is difficult to understand?

It is telling the Iraqi's that we want to get out as soon as possible where it does the least harm to the Iraqis. (btw 80% of the Iraqis not only want us to leave, but when push comes to shove, they are going to try to force us to leave.

The other side (on our side) is not saying "as long as it takes". There are those on the other side (the architects of this war) who do not want to be clear about that. They have not renounced their original aim to establish permanent military bases in Iraq.

For many Iraqis, that is the major problem.
