Perhaps the Chickenhawks have spat on one too many war heros when they begin to raise their eyebrows to the failed policies of this administration.
I don't know how your local news covered the Murtha situation. Around here, the coverage pretty much started with this Murtha quote about Cheney:
"I like guys who got five deferments and (have) never been there and send people to war, and then don't like to hear suggestions about what needs to be done," said Murtha, referencing the vice president's long record of draft avoidance in the 1960s. news.yahoo.com
This was really damning to Bush and Cheney - Murtha said what everyone is thinking - this got more coverage than Murtha's call for withdrawal at least initially.
THEN, the next day when the house was erupting over this issue, our TV showed this woman Jean Schmidt- anybody else see this, she was up there defending the failed Iraq policies with this stupid argument of a "phone call" she received from a Marine (<wink>) who said to stay the course.... this woman had no presence and she was being shouted down , it was <pathetic!!!!
At one point in the emotional debate, Rep. Jean Schmidt, Republican of Cincinnati, told of a phone call she received from a Marine colonel.
"He asked me to send Congress a message -- stay the course. He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message -- that cowards cut and run, Marines never do," Schmidt said. Murtha is a 37-year Marine veteran.
Democrats booed and shouted her down -- causing the House to come to a standstill. Rep. Harold Ford, Democrat of Tennessee, charged across the chamber's center aisle screaming that Republicans were making uncalled-for personal attacks. "You guys are pathetic! Pathetic!" yelled Rep. Marty Meehan, Democrat of Massachussetts. cleveland.com
Moral of this story- if the Republicans are going to put somebody in the house to defend the Chickenhawks against Murtha, IT BETTER BE A MARINE! and not some stupid middle aged woman with a made-up story. |
