Solon, YOu can blame the Democratic party of the US for that slow response to WW2. At that time, they were very much isolationists, and didn't want to get involved in a war that did not threaten America. I would say that FDR had his hands tied, but he is as guilty, if not more so, of the offense, and hesitation. He was afraid of how the citizens, trying to emerge from the Great Depression, would react to such a move. Then he did the dirtiest thing of all to get us into the war.
Despite the warnings of every major officer in the Pacific, he sent an executive order to bring the entire Pacific fleet into Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, knowing that he had angered the Japanese by reneging on every contract with them at that time. The blood of those thousands that died in Pearl Harbor is on his hands. If it hadn't been for the bull headed Adm. Halsey, we would not have had a fleet in the Pacific to fight back with.
Now, you guys are making a big stink about the US going to war in Iraq, since, according to you, they were no threat to America, but you scorn the US for not immediately jumping into a war that did not threaten our shores in Europe. So that indicates that you have a selective opinion that doesn't count for all incidents, only the ones that YOU care about. Kind of selfish IMO. Either crap every time, or get off the pot. |
