If I'm not mistaken, some states require NRA training and/or certification (or some other source) before they will issue a permit to carry.

I grew up being trained in responsible and safe gun handling, and I personally made it a point to practice safe handling even before I shot my first deer at the age of 12, or before I acquired my first pistol at the age of 13. My father was a Marine, but he was not a gun enthusiast. Nevertheless, he taught me safety, as did the other adults in my life. Plus it made perfect sense to me personally, and I studied it and practiced it.

I think my method is much preferable to one imposed by the government. People who don't want to or can't follow my method should not mess with guns. The government is not going to instill any principles in an irresponsible person. The government will never make such a person safe with guns. The only thing the government will do is destroy personal freedom.

I would prefer that they remove personal freedom from people who can't behave responsibly, and leave me alone.

And you. If you give up the freedom to keep and bear arms, then you may soon find yourself without some freedom that you personally can't live without.

OK, I agree that there is a "health" model as well as a "criminal" model, one or both of which may apply to any given murderer. Infringing my constitutional rights is not going to change that one bit.
