Perhaps. Personally i think saddam was about to escape sanctions and thus containment at least by the euros, russians etc. Intel also said he had wmds which would included nukes. Removing him easlily was a better alternative than bombing him into submission or getting into it with our allies who wanted to do business with him. It is the post war insurgency we are having difficulty with not the war.
I certainly wouldnt allow a new saddam to arise regardless of what the euros, ruskys, and saudis for that matter said. There is a war underway with islamo-facists that we cant lose although there might be battles we might lose and strategic retreats we might choose to make. If they talibanize iraq, we should afganize it using similar tactics. Mike
