"It should be getting worse every day from your position."
Quite trying to lie by puting words in my mouth. I NEVER said "every day".
But it *does* follow from my argument ('the longer we stay, the more we lose') that things would be progressively getting worse.
And, they are, and have been year-over-year since the start of the war: allied deaths are steadily rising, and daily COST to the US tax payer has been steadily rising.
[Standing in the middle of an Islamic civil war is not 'smart'.]
"Maybe not. Helping the good guys (the ones for freedom, democracy, rule of law, etc.) is good."
Of course it is! And we can CONTINUE to 'help the good guys' by supporting freedom, Capitalism, Democracy, and peaceful relations between nations ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE in the world that they might break out.
But, having said that, it does not follow that we should stand in the middle of every civil war, everywhere in the world --- nor does it mean that one side in any particular civil war is always the 'good guys' (as you put it) and that the other side are the bad guys....
(For example, in the case of Iraq, which side in the civil war represent the 'good guys' to you? The Shiites - allied with Iran, or the Sunnis - allied with Saudi Arabia, et al?)
Remember: BOTH sides could say that they 'want Democracy' and yet both sides want to dominate the other, control the oil wealth, etc. The current (though temporary) government in Iraq is one of the more corrupt ones going, *Billions* have been looted.
And, when one faction resorts to the tactics of terrorism (and calling in foreign fighters to battle for their brand of religion), so to does (or else soon will) the opposing side.
For ex: the Sunnis have Zaqawi... (while the Shiites have their Badr Brigades, and a dozen other semi-official militias). The Sunnis get re-supplied and have access to 'unlimited amounts of funding' from Saudi Arabia and other Sunni oil rich nations, while the Iraqi Shiites have signed a defense pact with the shiites in Iran, and have Intelligence contacts at the highest levels of the governments....
Were the Sunnis to 'call for all Sunnis in the world to come to Iraq and become jihadists' and attack the 'devil-spawn', apostate Shiites... I feel sure that Iran would mount it's own big drive for Shiite jihadists to fight off the oppressive, 'prophet killing' Sunnis.
These kind of things tend to be mutually reinforcing and yet self-limiting.
The LAST thing the US should be doing is standing in the middle of this civil war, pretending we can hold back the tide.
The locals need to settle the civil war themselves... else there will NEVER be any peace.
Re: "DEFEATEST."
Don't be an idiot! I'm suggesting the way for us to WIN. (In case you have forgotten what the word "win" means, it means "achieving your national strategic goals".) |
