RE: "That's why Samsung is pouring 10B$ into infrastructure. There will only be a few large manufacturers and others will have to pay the price for fab outsourcing. It's a lot like the GM of the 40's, no?"

Wasn't GM the #1 market cap leader in the USA back in the 50s?

"GM to Ax 30,000 Jobs, Close 12 Facilities"

The difference between the future Samsung and the current GM will eventually be Samsung probably won't have unions sinking their boat. GM needs to shift more things overseas - away from the USA laws that are making it less competitive globally than its peers.

Does Toyota have a $5B annual health care bill and $98B in benefit liabilities? Does Toyota have an average hourly worker age equal to 49 years old? (Meanwhile, a CA Toyota plant has an average age of ~35 years old.)

Samsung doesn't seem to have the union issues that US corporations get hurt by - they pay their workers something like 1/4th to 1/2 USA workers - Samsung has 2X the headcount of Intel at half the cost.
