Well, if you recall, we PURPOSELY increased the troop level from 138k to about 160k just for the elections. That will be over 12/15 so I would THINK we can immediately afterward downsize back to about 138k. The Iraqi leaders SAY they will be 75% mobilized by the middle of next year and 100% by year end. IF that is true I see no reason why we cant continually bring our people home over the year down to say 50k or so by year end. PERSONALLY, I think we should keep a 40-50k contingent there for many years to make sure things stay on course. If thats not acceptable to anyone (Iraqi's or Americans) then a sizable rapid reaction force say in Bahrain. From what I hear of Bahrain that would be considered a great duty station assignment. jdn
