Wasn't the visit by Abu Nidal seeking hospital treatment, or similar? He'd probably have got in for Palestinian connections, but didn't he get arrested or assassinated anyway?

The only training camp I ever heard about was in Kurdish territory, where Saddam's air force was banned (northern no-fly zone). It got set up there after the first Gulf War, because it was nice and clear of official control (hey, we were still friends with the Taliban then). We actually protected it by taking out Iraqi forces whenever they headed that way...
Eventually we had to go and clear it out ourselves with some Kurdish militia forces, long after we'd overthrown Saddam. I don't see how we can pin that on Saddam as involvement with AQ, since it was wasn't in territory he could control and we were the ones guarding it.
