That's the membership of the UN. Of those 191 nations, there are 40 I would consider actual working democracies (although there are many more than that that lay claim to the label.) In an actual democracy, you have multiple political powers and periodic changes of leaders and controlling parties with free speech and a free press, among other freedoms granted citizens.

Now why should the US or Canada surrender its soverignty to a collection of dictatorships like that?
