BP has been running a bunch of creative commercials talking about carbon footprints, the search for alternative fuels and similar topics. But I have yet to see any major BP initiative in that area. Are we expecting too much of an oil company to do any more than PR efforts in the area of meaningful alternative energies?
Likewise, Ford was hitting the environmental theme heavily in their ads, even though they lag the Japanese makers miserably in fuel conservation and emissions. GE has made environmentalism a centerpiece of its big ticket ads lately.. ie. the animated elephant dancing through the "clean" jungle. But are any of these industrial giants spending as much on alternative energies and environmental clean up as they are touting their efforts. Are we watching another round of corporate shell games? To what end? Some of these ads are starting to remind me of the 1950s commercials where "More Doctors recommended Kent Cigarettes than any other brand." If any of you sharp eyed energy watchers have answers, I'd sure be glad to see them.....
