Murtha is a respected, longterm member of congress and served many years in the Marines, and he deserved to be listened to whether one agrees with him or not. What followed his words was a vicious attack, rather than a studied consideration of and commentary on what he said and why he said it.

I do think that what we are now seeing is the beginnings of an attempt to reach consensus about this war and some resolution about what is fast becoming an unsustainable position for the administration. Biden's words of slow "phase out", some Republican comments about needing timeframes-- all these are harbingers of this move.

It won't be done painlessly- people feel such a need to defend their position and seem to believe that to change one's position at all is seen as flipflopping rather than the intelligent consideration of the always mutable factors that life is.

I won't bother with pointing out your insults... as I realize you honestly don't see them- and don't mean to be as abrasive as you come across.

Oh-- did you see the site I posted to Lindy about We Need a Wall? What I find interesting about that is not the possibility of a wall, but the fact that there is a demand for it, and that we have the Minutemen growing in strength, and the calls I hear on the radio are increasingly negative about illegal immigrants.... all are saying to the congress-- DO SOMETHING. I wonder where it will all end up.
