Interesting development, yes it is bad news, and the subs would represent a threat to a portion of our surface fleet.

We can counteract the threat though, just another reason we need to keep developing the new Virginia class submarines. Progress never ends, we are far ahead of these diesel subs when matched against one of our 688 class boats, but we need to keep pushing the envelope in new designs. Tom Clancy's look at the force in Hunt for Red October is not that far off the mark today.

Oh, res- AIP equipped subs are believed to be a bigger threat to American warships than nuclear subs, especially in coastal waters.

My response, (high pitched voice) "BUUULLLSHIIIIT!". ;-)

The term "quiet submarine" is going to have to be redefined with Virginia class. Just an amazing engineering feat to make a sub this quiet.
