Ameriprise, the old American Express Financial Advisors division, has been spun off.

On Oct 3, 2005 the spin off of Ameriprise was complete. Shareholders of American Express received 1 share of Ameriprise for every 5 shares owned. For example if you own 100 shares of American Express you will own 20 shares of Ameriprise after the spin off is completed. If you own a number of shares not divisible by 5, you will not receive fractional shares, rather the factional share will be sold and you will receive a check for the proceeds in the mail.

Ameriprise states it will pay a dividend, and just declared a .11 quarterly dividend. In addition, Ameriprise has began an aggressive radio campaign aimed at drumming up business. Let's keep an open mind and see where Ameriprise stock goes in the future.

Good luck investing.
