If the Democrats were to give the Islamists some respect, they would have acknowledge that they have enemies who are ideologically committed to war, and who are not open to compromise. Since the Democrats hold as an article of faith that everybody is open to compromise, much easier not to listen to the Islamists
"An article of *faith*"..... The West - for some centuries now - has been moving away from religion. We have been dragged into a religious war during a historical period when many among us can barely understand the term, leave alone being able to take the threat seriously.
It is interesting that a religious man like Bush was able to grasp very quickly what extremist Islamism is all about. The Left seems to have many secular quasi-religious beliefs, including the one that "everybody is open to compromise".
Interesting situation, really - Western, or American Leftists believe that Islamists will "reform and conform" - while for the other side, even a slightest thought along those lines would mean betrayal of the will of God.
Will the Dems eventually "learn"? Yes, but only if they can no longer avoid doing so, like after some more major attacks. As I speak now, I recall Jimmy Carter announcing to the world after the Soviets attacked Afghanistan, that this event made him "re-evaluate" his entire thinking about the Soviet Union. I remember wondering about his sudden revelation -- "wtf were you all your life up until now, man?".... |
