I found a rotary one in my grandfather's medicine chest when I was about 17 - it looked clean so I stuck it in my nose and the cylinder rotated a quarter way and it would not pop back and was now actually firmly stuck in my nostril. A half hour of steady tugging eventually loosened it out along with some skin. Outside of passing a kidney stone in an airplane over Barbados this is the most painful thing I can remember.

I know an old rancher who burns his nose hairs out with a bic lighter using lightning quick flicks.
