No you're missing the point. FDR couldn't even support Britain openly because of the intense isolationist fervor in the US at that time. He knew that confrontation with both Germany and Japan was going to happen. He also most likely knew, especially with the intelligence he was receiving, that America was going to be attacked. Ever wonder why none of our aircraft carriers were at Pearl Harbor?
