LindyBill, I'm not so sure that driver licenses expire on ones birthday in every state. I once lived in a state (Missouri) where this was not the case; the license expired on the date I obtained it, rather than on my birthday.

For my last 15 or 20 years in California, most of us under a certain age and with good driving records were allowed to renew by mail, which practice provides for automatic notification by mail, obviously. - Holly
