Thanks so much for the warning!!! I certainly try and do as much research as possible before jumping in...but I hate to waste time as well....so much interesting technology out there and so little time with this damn job I have!!! Jeez I could do this full time I swear! Anyway...I did a "first round" check on H&Q healthcare investors, a closed end fund trading on the NYSE (HQH) managed by Hambrecht and Quist. I know many people dont like funds but I think in this area of the market paying a fee for investment advice is definitely worth it...you get so much more compared to a regular old mutual fund. I would think that even someone involved with biotech could profit due to the increasingly diverse sciences involved.

Fund trades at a 17% discount as of Friday and is broken down as follows:

5% Agro/Enviromental Techonologies
40% Biotechnology
6% Contract Research Organizations
7% Diagnostics
6% Managed Care
7.5% Medical Supplies
15% Specialty Medical
8% Pharmaceuticals

Largest holdings a/o 6/30/97:

Vivus, Transkaryotic Therapies, Quinifes Transnational, Caralytica, Cytyc, Gilead Sciences, Genzyme, Marsek Biosciences, Vencor, INCYTE Pharmaceuticas

I've got the whole list of their holdings if anyones interested. I was simply impressed that they had lots of small stuff I never even heard of and nary an Amgen or Chiron on the list! What a knuckle head I am! But I would like to find money management that is out there doing real research on small companies and new technologies and not just buying that lame biotech index that so many do.

Anyone have an opinion on H&Q as a bio investment firm, or have ideas along this line??? I definitley want to get a portion of my biotech portfolio under management in the near term untill I can get some of my own research done as I feel the group has just taken off and I dont want to miss the boat (rocket?).
