We never heard if the computer was ever found, and if so, what condition was it in? And we don't know where in the State Department it was lost. Nor do we know who had responsibility for the computer...who was signed out to use it, etc.
Seems to me if we lose even one with "top secret info" inside, that there should be some major precautions taken.

Easy. Check it back in with the security guard that should be there when using top secret material. The National Archives reading room has an armed guard in the room, no one takes anything but a small purse (for locker key, lipstick...and copy card only) Pencils are used, you can't bring in your own notebook, and certainly couldn't bring in a lap top when I was there a few years ago. Originals of old documents are handled with white gloves only.
Seems to me that the State Department, the CIA and the Pentagon could benefit from paying attention to how the NA handles things.
The NA personnel even knew what documents Sandy Berger had checked out, and luckily has copies of them.... He should have known better. Actually, I believe he did know better. I just want to know what he stole from the NA, and why it was so important for him to do it and sully his career so badly. |
