Western Turkey is not bad. You can generally find anything from Motel 6 to Hiltons with executive floors. And beautiful beaches and coast.

East of Ankara is a whole 'nuther matter. You take what you can get. It was in one of those that I was bitten by something at night, resulting in the worst and biggest skin infection I've ever had. Surgery was being considered for a while after returning to the US, but it looks like I've escaped that. I've still got a fairly large scab and it still causes pain. And we were staying in the best hotel in that town. It was none too good. I'd strongly recommend to anyone going to Turkey that they stay in the western part. Had I known what I was getting into by going into the eastern part, I wouldn't have.

In western Turkey, they're more used to the ways of western women and more forgiving of them. Eastern Turkey is much more Islamic and strict.
