Every so often someone reminds us that wireless-loop installations may be more important than mobile phones, with telephones arriving in the rural third world. It seems to me that CDMA then loses its two (claimed) advantages. Congestion is unlikely to be a problem for a very long time there, so who cares whether you get six or twenty times analogue? Power-consumption is not much of an issue for wireless-loop installations with fixed phones. Yes, there may not be mains power available, but sources much more substantial than lithium batteries will be.
