Kodak Debuts Powerful, Easy-to-Use Secure E-Mail Messaging Service For Healthcare Providers

ANAHEIM, Aug. 10, 2003 ¾ Eastman Kodak Company today announced worldwide availability of the Kodak Secure E-Mail Service, which can encrypt e-mail messages and their attachments so that patient information and images can be sent securely over the Internet to physicians, patients and other healthcare providers. It allows any type of electronic document, including laboratory and radiology reports, electronic patient records, billing statements and imaging studies, to be delivered securely to any recipient—without the need for additional software at the recipient’s site.

“This affordable, easy-to-use service can help healthcare providers meet the privacy and security guidelines for protecting patient data as called for by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) in the United States and related regulations in other countries,” said John Farrell, General Manager of Growth Services and Vice President, Kodak’s Health Imaging Group.

“This service can be integrated into existing e-mail systems and used in both clinical and business applications. It can also be purchased as part of a Kodak DirectView PACS system.”

Encryption takes place in less than 1/10th of a second. This software is compatible with existing firewalls and any SMTP mail system. In addition to encryption of sensitive patient information, the secure e-mail service allows security administrators to implement virus scanning, content filtering and archiving. Full auditing capabilities include the ability to confirm receipt and view the time at which the e-mail was received.

The Kodak Secure E-Mail Service is scalable and healthcare providers can tailor the system to meet national health laws and regulations worldwide.

This secure e-mail application is provided through an agreement with Aliroo Ltd., of Israel. Under terms of the agreement, Kodak has obtained exclusive rights to market Aliroo’s PrivaWall secure e-mail messaging system in the United States and non-exclusive rights to market this system throughout the rest of the world.

“We are delighted to be chosen by a worldwide market leader to furnish secure e-mail systems to the healthcare market,” said Meir Zorea, Aliroo’s President and CEO.
