If chardonnay was made to age by oaking it can last several years. If a chardonnay is light and fruity with no oak, then it should last a couple of years, but don't expect it to last over 5 years from the year of the vintage. Most wines are not bottled until two years after the vintage year. This would imply a three year shelf life. Wines stored with little temperature fluctuation last longer. Wines last longer when stored at cooler temperatures. BV used to make outstanding wines prior to being bought by Sutter Homes and upsetting their oenologist. It is interesting to hear they are again making decent wines. DRC Montrachet (Chardonnay) is made to age decades. It is priced so only decca-millionaires can afford it. epinions.com
