Peter,

Report: A formal account of the proceedings or transaction of a group.

Account: A narrative or record of events.

Record: To set down for preservation in writing, or other permanent form.

Where does that say anything about adding an opinion? Where does that allow any reporter to assume anything? Where does that say that the reporter can add is own spin to the facts? Where does it say that the reporter can attempt to attempt to influence the opinions of the public? Where does it say that the reporter, or his editors, have the right to use the facts reported to solidify their agenda?

I could go on, and on, but the brass tacks are that people like Dan Rather were, and are, amateur politicians wearing disguises as reporters.
