Hi GV, RE: "what made you choose Dell"

Historically, the assignment to select equipment tends to be given to the most recent NCG because they tend to have strong opinions that I like to hear. In this case, our PM did the searching, and comparative cost for features needed is the top criteria.

Cost, reliability, positive experiences with all Dell equipment we've ever owned, good TS. Definitely not the color.

But in my case, lightweight was the most important criteria.

RE: "For me, Dell was a more expensive option,"

You and I tend to be out of synch by 6 months. I remember one time I noticed HP systems were cheaper than Dell for a particular set of features I needed but six months later you said HP was cheaper than Dell meanwhile that was about when Dell had already started correcting their prices. This year our search showed Dell was cheaper (even before this special) than HP (for features we need.) They go back and forth on this. It would be nice if they could differentiate themselves better in the market place. I think Sony is distinguishing itself as the notebook for women - I wonder what the market research reports say are the gender preference for notebooks. Dell is pretty strongly preferred by the guys in our company, but the women seem to prefer Sony notebooks (weight/size) or HP desktop (appearance) for obvious reasons. Our accounting dept prefers to grab whatever they can find that's cheap - because their equipment doesn't require demanding features - so they get whatever special comes along because we usually don't include them in any corporate upgrades.

We used to buy nearly 100% Dell at our company (since usually Dell was the best cost for the features we demand), but the requirement for light weight notebooks for women forced us to include other vendors. (Additionally, we have always had a variety of vendor equipment in our lab.)

Regards,
Amy J
