Polls Find Bush Contributed to 2005 Defeats
Zogby released a free Battleground 2005 report that concludes President Bush's "current low approval ratings were a major factor in defeats handed to Republican candidates and initiatives sponsored by the Republican governor of the nation's most populous state."

"Of course, the entirety of 2005’s elections did not hinge on Bush’s popularity, and the inability to candidates like New Jersey Republican gubernatorial nominee Doug Forrester to capitalize on his opponent’s biggest weakness -- corruption tied to the governing party in Trenton -- speak volumes about the other peril in politics: weak candidates."
