I don't expect to work for free, I simply asked YOU if you were.
Of course you don't work for free. You just expect everyone else to risk their lives (as well as putting their personal lives on hold), for free.
I prefer that the entire military is in the military chain of command and in the employ of the People of the US of A and not mercenary outfits like Aegis and Blackwater.
Funny thing.. So do I. But people like yourself seem to believe servicemen should not be paid commensurately with civilian workers, and that the size of the military should be reduced 40% so you could reap a "peace dividend" (previous administration handiwork).
As for truck drivers and their pay, I've already posted that the average KBR truck drive in Iraq, on an hourly basis, makes about $15-20/hour. I recall one of them speaking on CNN about a year ago describing his average day, and how he came to realize that the risk outweighed the benefit, given the hourly rate, and he quit. Again, the reason they make so much is because they work tremendous numbers of hours each and EVERY day.
But the funny thing is, I see more third country nationals (Turks, Indians, and Pakistanis.. etc) driving trucks in Iraq than I do Americans. And of course there are the Iraqi truck drivers, many of whom are beheaded if they are captured.
As for KBR, I've also discussed the process of contracts to some degree (according to my knowlege of it) and there is obviously room for change.
