My impression is that these people were not abandoned under extreme duress, at least, not all of them. Some left behind when the family evacuated before the storm.

Almost impossible to reconstruct all the stories, since the families and neighbors are all scattered.

Yesterday I read that more than 2000 children have not been located. Perhaps as a function of being from fragmented, fractured families.
