I don't see the network being vast or sophisticated enough to include parties looking to gain financially from the attack. The information and tactics needed to coordinate 9/11 weren't high tech or high finance. This was more about making a message than making a profit.

Bin Laden, operating out of tents, recruited devout Muslims to sacrifice themselves in the name of Allah. We are learning there's no shortage of them.
