The relative severity of each politician's "flip-floppiness" is itself part of the "debate"

It can certainly be overdone but I think it should be part of the debate. While I might not expect models of consistency to routinely be found among senior politicians, the charge can be a lot more then playground name-calling. If someone is too inconsistent I would consider that to be a serious strike against them. It certainly is no more, and probably less connected to "just playground name-calling" than the majority of political discourse today. (Of course that is a very low standard)
