The problem is that the Iraqis hear the stories, and see the reality. Since they see the day-to-day, they're not stupid enough to fall for the propaganda (although apparently some here are). The impression they are left with is the US is lying to them, and can't be trusted. Why should they believe us when we say that democracy is the best form of government when we are constantly pulling anti-democratic crap like this (along with Abu Ghraib, checkpoint 'mistakes', mistaken bombings, etc)?

If we want the Iraqis to trust us, we need to knock this stuff off and give them the straight scoop.
