I suspect we are too disneyed in America. The best we can hope for in ideal circumstances is to struggle through life making moment by moment decisions based on principles of decency, while facing adversity from every direction.

For some people, any thing less than bands in the streets and fiestas in the market places accross Iraq defines failure for the USA.

We knew, or should have known from the start that the outcome would be one in which the powerful forces in the region would rise to power. Our best hope was that it would be with a democratic system in place. The dictatorial regime is gone but the culture is what it is otherwise... no fairy tail endings to be expected.
