Alright, I've thought about it.

Nice. I agree with all of it.

My own cut, in addition to the issue of waking the public, is that the structural aspects of politics now lean away from addressing the ills of our large cities. My present focus is on the primary system of both parties. If those involved states with large urban populations in the very outset, we would be much more likely to get a politics addressed to their needs. IMHO.

Oh, yes, on the Kozol book, I was struck by the highly military character of the education. All about discipline; not about developing, expanding potential, seeing the world differently, etc. None of the virtues of what used to be extolled as a liberal education.
