Interesting. I didn't read the article with a partisan or even political bias. As kholt mentioned, the same kind of absolutism is found regarding Clinton or Nixon or Reagan. In fact, I disregarded that statement other than to register it as an example of what he was addressing, not an attempt to say the statement wasn't true.

I thought the point was that intelligent analysis and debate involves much more and that people who make these kinds of statements, be they LW or RW, aren't usually the ones you find as intelligent as those who avoid them.

If you want to say that you believe Bush will be considered one of the worst presidents in history (which my husband believes), that's fine, but it should be followed with a pretty knowledgeable and complete foundation of why (don't ask). Which you did-- you brought out the factors that are discussable (is that a word?). Starting with the hyberbolic however, often prevents that.
Again, if you are watching the news and Bush says something bizarre, and you say, He is the worst president ever! you will probably get away with it.
