Cable & Wireless brings Christmas early to is customers

Cable & Wireless has brought Christmas early to its customers with yesterday’s introduction of its NetSpeak service.

“Today is a major milestone in the history of telecommunications in St. Kitts/Nevis. This launch of NetSpeak, which would represent in effect another medium of communications in St. Kitts/Nevis, is worthy of the highest acclamation. Several years ago, many people asked the question whether Cable & Wireless would ever offer voice over Internet.

“Of course, the service was very much in its infancy then and the quality was a major issue. Today, the technology has drastically improved to the point where the clarity of the service we will be offering as of today is almost as good as that of your fixed line,” CE of Cable & Wireless St. Kitts/Nevis Patricia Walters said.

She said the beauty about the service is that there is no requirement to have a computer for the service to work.

“For this, we expect that a significant number of our customers would cash in, as the savings to be realised are huge. The point is that with the launch of this service today, the ordinary Kittitian and Nevisian can stay in touch with his friends, families and loved ones with ease.”

NetSpeak, the company announced, is a C&W “Voice over Internet” service with attributes including unlimited calling to international destinations for one low flat monthly fee, a bundle of minutes calling for a low monthly fee, low rates for calls out of plan destinations, free telephone features such as call waiting, call forwarding and caller ID, a NetSpeak box, a local St. Kitts/Nevis telephone number, US/Canada/UK overseas numbers on the NetSpeak adapter, on-line account centre to manage your features and view account details and one time set-up fee.

“You don’t have to shop for Internet and voice services with two different companies. One stop shop, one bill and one customer support from the company you know and trust. NetSpeak offers you flexibility in choosing unlimited plans at a significantly lower prices and competitive rates to out of plan destinations around the world.

“NetSpeak allows you to have multiple overseas phone numbers on your adapter. Calls to these numbers all ring on the same phone attached to your NetSpeak adapter. This means that your family and friends overseas can call you for free when calling your overseas numbers,” Robert Williams, vice president of customer services said.

The NetSpeak basic plan costs $79 per month with unlimited calls to US/Canada; NetSpeak Plan A costs $99 per month with unlimited calls to US/Canada plus unlimited calls to UK (fixed lines only); the NetSpeak Plan B is going for $99 per month with unlimited calls to US/Canada and 200 minutes to C & W Caribbean (fixed lines only); NetSpeak Plan C is going at a $119 per month fee with unlimited calls to US/Canada, unlimited calls to UK (fixed lines only) and 200 minutes to C & W Caribbean (fixed lines only).

“You can travel to anywhere in your St. Kitts/Nevis or to other countries with your NetSpeak adapter and make calls utilising your NetSpeak calling plan(s). A suitable broadband Internet connection, an Ethernet modem that supports Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), your NetSpeak Box and an analog telephone,” Williams said.

United Kingdom mobile calls are classified as “out of plan calls”.
