Rather than having the government, any government, recognize or legalize "Gay Marriage," why don't we all just ask the government, all government, to please stop recognizing Every Marriage? Eliminate the "married filing . . ." tax status. Do we have some kind of underpopulation problem that justifies favoring couples? Figure out a way to offer everybody health care, so that "family plans" are obsolete. After that, who cares? Marriage is so, like, old fashioned.
