Our Founding Fathers believed strongly in separation of church and state. Equal religious rights to all, including for those who choose not to have any religion. The Founding Fathers (as well as Abe Lincoln) all issued statements warning us against Christian extremists. Most of them issued statements doubting anything in the Bible could be proven, or that Christ was divine. In fact, to the religious right mind they all seem like a bunch of "athiests".

So whenever you hear a rightwinger claiming that on Constitution was "based on Christian values" (and we differ widely on what those might be) he's a liar, even though the term "under God" does appear. Remember, the word "God" is no one thing, it is the absolute mystery and power of life. All religions worship some form of "God" and so do many agnostics. But we can never define what "God" means, or agree on any definition. What we can agree on is right vs. wrong. for instance, we all agree corruption, lying, stealing, cheating and pollution are wrong. The current rightwing is guilty of all five of these crimes.
