i read a few days ago that MSFT had imported 400,000 Xbox 360s to the US, and Ebay claimed to have sold 40,000. none of the retailers seem to know when they will get more. a couple days before the launch i got a call from Gamestop and they said my box (which i had reserved several months beforehand) would not be available till after Christmas. Gamestop CEO has taken heat for his lack of knowledge on Xbox status. but same at BestBuy. the local store told me they had 62 boxes at launch and are "hoping" for another shipment before Christmas. so very up in the air--no wonder people are paying double price on Ebay--but when you think about it, 40,000 is a very small number compared to the number of US consumers, so i don't think it will affect shopping too much--except maybe it will cause a percentage of shoppers to hold onto their $400 since they don't want anything but an Xbox (maybe that's what you meant). to the extent that Q4 is weakened as a result, i guess Q1 will be stronger.

sounds like it will take well into Q1 to gain widespread availability--so i guess MSFT is missing the Christmas rush except for the lucky (overpaying) few.
