fresc, Samuel Gompers may have had a reason to complain about the wages for rolling cigars, but soon after the unions were started, they began to abuse the process, and demand wages that were far too high for the work done.

The mob, seeing an excellent opportunity to latch on to more money, took control of many labor unions. They didn't give a damn about the employees, and skimmed off millions, if not billions, of dollars off the worker's dues.

So, those companies you are talking about are some of the ones that provide products that the populace buy. All the labor union does, is increase the cost of these products to the consumer, including the union members.

It appears obvious that you are in a labor union, and of course, are biased, but you should know that there has never been a strike that has paid for itself.
