No leads, just curious. As my wife and I travelled all over for a month in 2004. Every place we went was great, but no place stuck out as a clear winner. And, for me, outside of the home prices, the Bay Area has it over almost everywhere (mountains aren't close, but my knee is useless).

Back to NZ -- Lake Wanaka or Windy Wellington (awesome windsurfing) is probably where I'd settle, but NZ is having a home bubble of its own. There is an unpopulated lake near Wanaka that's probably 1/3 price in comparison to Wanaka.
